1953

3-dentists-standardGood friend and area Orthodontist, Dr. Willie Brockington convinced Dr. David Joseph there was a great need for serving families with a general dentistry practice in Camden. The DuPont May Plant had recently started production in Lugoff and the general population was growing. So in 1953, after graduating from Georgetown University Dental School, Dr. David T. Joseph, Sr. arrived in Camden with his wife, Rosemary and their daughter, Jan. Dr. David set-up practice that summer renting space in the Pritchard Building behind the post office in downtown Camden. Dr. David joined dentists, Dr. Williford, Dr. Sowell and Dr. Hinson, already in Camden. While Dr. David was establishing his practice, his brother, Paul T. Joseph, Sr. was busy studying dentistry at Georgetown University Dental School. After graduating in 1956, Dr. Paul served two years with the Naval Dental Corp, assigned to the Marines at Paris Island, South Carolina.

1958

Dr. Paul joined a very busy Dr. David, and together they built our current office on Monument Square. The early days of their practice were dominated by pain control, rampant decay, and fabrication of dentures.

1960's

In the mid 1960's, Dr. Paul, along with the Kershaw County Dental Society and the Camden Jaycees, helped to fluoridate the public water supply. This low-cost public health service drastically reduced the occurrence of tooth decay in the county. The Doctors Joseph were also busy at home raising eight children each.

1961-1966

The practice welcomed Maggie Davis, Sally Turner, Patty Elliott, and Pat Lantz as employees. Over the next 50+ years, with unparalleled loyal and caring work ethics, Dr. David and Dr. Paul worked hard to build their practice and its solid reputation.

1970's

In the early 1970's, the first dental hygienist joined the staff and dental insurance started to gain popularity. During this same time, Dr. Paul was on the forefront of implant dentistry, surgically placing and restoring implants for fixed and removable restorations.

1990

Dr. David's son, Bobby, joined the practice in the summer of 1990 after graduating from the Medical University of South Carolina School of Dentistry.

1991

Nine months later in February of 1991, sadly Dr. David was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He died April 22, 1992, after a courageous battle with the disease. “Thank God I had those nine months to practice under his guidance before he became ill. I was able to witness first hand his caring ways and his philosophy of giving nothing but your best." Dr. Bobby shared. “It was also a nice transition for our patients.”

1992

Dr. Paul's son, Paul Jr., joined the practice in the summer of 1992 after graduating from the Medical University of South Carolina School of Dentistry followed by a one year, general practice residency at Palmetto, Richland.

1997

In 1997, the office was badly damaged by fire and was temporarily moved to Mill Street for one year. Renovations and remodeling added a second floor and the operatories and labs were reconfigured along with computerizing the administrative duties.

2013

We went digital! Dental x-rays were processed digitally and proved to be a huge advance clinically and organizationally. The next year, all dental records were computerized and charts were eliminated. Staying current with continuing education and employing the latest in dental technologies are only two of the ways Joseph Dental Associates prioritizes patient care.

Joseph Dental Associates Camden,SC 29020 is proud to continue a long tradition of putting patients first and exceeding expectations.
